MetaMetrics offers a scientific approach to measuring both student ability and the complexity of learning materials on the same scale. Measuring both performance and materials on the same scale makes it possible to connect learners to resources and instruction at the appropriate challenge level.

  - About MetaMetrics' Frameworks
    MetaMetrics offers a scientific approach to measuring both student ability and the complexity of learning materials on the same scale. Measuring both performance and materials on the same scale makes it possible to connect learners to resources and instruction at the appropriate challenge level.
  - Lexile Framework for Reading
    The Lexile Framework for Reading is a scientific approach for measuring both reading comprehension ability and text complexity and places both measures on the Lexile scale. When used together, these measures can help match a reader with reading material at an appropriate difficulty or help give an idea of how well a reader will comprehend a text. Students may be matched with reading material that facilitates the optimal growth in their reading comprehension ability.
  - El Sistema Lexile para Leer: The Spanish Lexile Framework for Reading
    El Sistema para Leer, the Spanish Lexile Framework for Reading is a scientific approach for measuring both Spanish reading comprehension ability and Spanish text complexity and places both measures on the Lexile scale. When used together, these measures can help match a reader of Spanish with Spanish reading material that is at an appropriate difficulty or help give an idea of how well the reader will comprehend a Spanish-language text. Students may be matched with Spanish reading material that facilitates the optimal growth in their Spanish reading comprehension ability.
  - Quantile Framework for Mathematics
    The Quantile® Framework for Mathematics is a scientific approach to measuring both the difficulty of a mathematical skill, concept or application (called Quantile Skill and Concept [QSC]) and a developing mathematician’s understanding of the QSCs in the following areas: Geometry; Measurement; Number Sense; Numerical Operations; Algebra and Algebraic Thinking; and Data Analysis and Probability. Quantile measures are expressed as numeric measures followed by a “Q” (for example, 850Q), and are placed on the Quantile scale. The Quantile Framework spans the developmental continuum from kindergarten mathematics through the content typically taught in Algebra II, Geometry, Trigonometry and Pre-calculus, from below 0Q (Emerging Mathematician) to above 1600Q. Quantile measures take the guesswork out of determining which mathematical skills a developing mathematician has learned and which ones require additional instruction.

    The Lexile Framework for Oral Reading is a scientific approach for measuring both students' oral reading ability and the oral reading difficulty of text and reporting them on the same scale, the Lexile scale.

About MetaMetrics' Frameworks

MetaMetrics offers a scientific approach to measuring both student ability and the complexity of learning materials on the same scale. Measuring both performance and materials on the same scale makes it possible to connect learners to resources and instruction at the appropriate challenge level.

Over time MetaMetrics has developed the following frameworks:

Lexile^® Framework for Reading measures a student's reading ability and a text's complexity.
El Sistema Lexile^® para Leer is the Spanish-language version of the Lexile Framework for Reading.
Quantile^® Framework for Mathematics measures a student's readiness to learn and the complexity of math materials.
Lexile^® Framework for Oral Reading measures a student's oral reading ability and the oral readability of a passage.

You can leverage these frameworks using our APIs and partner products and tools. For example, the About the Lexile Text Analyzer can be used to generate Lexile measures for texts, the Titles API can be used to identify and provide texts at different Lexile measures, and the Career Database can be used to identify the entry-level reading and math demands for hundreds of careers.
