About Career Database API

The Career Database identifies the reading and mathematics ability necessary for career preparedness. It provides Lexile® and Quantile® measures related to each career as well as important descriptive information.

The database is a result of years of research examining text complexity and mathematical demands in various domains of the post-secondary experience. It uses Lexile and Quantile scales to measure readiness across all careers and is an excellent resource to address the current emphasis on career readiness. Lexile and Quantile measures are the only metrics available to compare and describe the reading and math demands of a career.

The Career Database API can be used for integration into Lexile and Quantile partner products and services. With the Career Database and student Lexile and Quantile measures, educators and students can identify the reading and mathematics ability needed to enter into a desired career and use this information to inform goal setting. The careers featured within the Career Database include numerous careers identified as Bright Outlook Occupations by O*NET, the premier online career search database designed for the U.S. Department of Labor. Bright Outlook Occupations are careers that are expected to grow and/or emerge in the next few years and offer large numbers of new job openings.

The careers in the database are typically updated once annually.
